FAQs - What Our Customers Want to Know

Which conditions can I use the Comfyse Cushy Cushion for?

The Comfyse Cushy Cushion has been designed to support people when they experience pain while sitting down.

Conditions that women can use the cushion for; haemorrhoids, pelvic girdle pain, perineal pain, tears caused by childbirth (2nd, 3rd, 4th degree tears), episiotomies, anal fissures, coccyx displacement or a breakage, plus protrusions from the perineum and anus.

Conditions that men can use the cushion for; haemorrhoids, protrusions from the anus (e.g. prostrate), coccyx displacement or a breakage

How do I alter the cushion to get the pressure relieving gap to fit me?

The black strap which doubles as a handle, can be used to both reduce the size of the pressure relieving gap or to increase the gap. By pulling the strap tighter, the gap gets smaller which can help people who have a specific smaller area of pain or are of a smaller frame to get comfy. People experiencing conditions which are affecting the whole of their perineum or bottom can loosen the strap to enable the pressure relieving gap to increase in size. This is particularly helpful to women who have had 3rd or 4th degree tears.

Which way up should the cushion be placed on my chair/sofa?

To enable the user’s comfort levels to be enhanced the cushion has a slope at the front for the legs to rest upon when you sit down. It is therefore preferable that the cushion is placed on a chair with the strap/handle at the back of the chair and the sloping part (pointing downwards) at the front of the chair.

Can the cover for the Comfyse Cushy Cushion be removed and washed?

Yes, the cover is made from 100% cotton and it can be washed in a washing machine with normal washing detergent. We recommend washing the cover at 40 degrees centigrade. If you prefer to wash at 50 or 60 degrees centigrade, please note that there may be some shrinkage, making the refitting of the cushion cover a bit  tighter due to shrinkage.

Can the cover for the Comfyse Cushy Cushion be tumble dried?

We do not recommend tumble drying the cover due to the strap adjusters which are attached to the cover. This is because they could melt in the hot temperatures experienced in the tumble dryer. Also the fabric is more likely to shrink in the heat of a tumble dryer.

When is the most suitable time during my pregnancy to buy a Comfyse Cushy Cushion?

If you are experiencing haemorrhoids, which is quite a common condition that’s experienced during pregnancy, then you’ll benefit from buying your Comfyse Cushy Cushion sooner rather than later. As this will give you a great way to relieve any pressure off your haemorrhoids immediately, plus you’ll already have the cushion to hand if you experience pain in your perineum when the baby’s head engages, ready for birth. Also, if you experience any perineal tears or have an episiotomy during the birth, you can immediately use the cushion to sit on rather than a normal flat seat, to reduce the pain you feel in your perineum, which is also a common experience of many new mums.

How do I know if I will need a Comfyse Cushy Cushion before I give birth to my baby?

Some women experience a healthy and relatively pain free pregnancy, which is great. However, there are several conditions which affect many pregnant women, thus making sitting down uncomfortable during this stage of their life. If you do experience any of the following conditions during your pregnancy, you will find that the Comfyse Cushy Cushion will help to reduce your discomfort;
– Haemorrhoids

– Pelvic girdle pain

– Groin pain

– Pelvic pain caused by the baby’s head being engaged

Pregnant women who do not experience any discomfort during their pregnancy may still find that they experience pain and discomfort due to childbirth.

Research which was undertaken in 2015 helps to highlight the likelihood of different conditions occurring.
• 10% of women experience piles during pregnancy
• 20% of women experience piles after the birth of their child
• 60-70% of women who deliver vaginally will need stitches (varies from 1st to 4th degree tears)
• 14% of women will need an episiotomy due to childbirth

It’s also known by the maternity professionals that first time mums, older mums (over 30 years old) and larger babies (7lb+) are important factors when it comes to mums experiencing genital tract trauma. If you do fit any of these categories, then it may well be prudent of you to buy your Comfyse Cushy Cushion before the birth so you have it available immediately after the delivery so to make the best use of the cushion. Plus don’t forget, if you get your cushion for your first pregnancy and birth, then you’ll already be prepared with your cushion ready to be used for subsequent pregnancies and births.

If you are happy with the support and comfort that the cushion offers you, please undo the stickers and remove the cushion from the bag to use.
